Natural sleep tips
A good night sleep is essential for health, brain function and moods. Sleep is especially important for growing children but getting to sleep for some is easier said than done.
Reports show that insomnia is increasing in adults and that child sleep problems is a growing trending topic. The number of children experiencing frequent night wakenings, night terrors, sleep apnea and sleep anxieties seems to be growing.
This can be a particularly big problem for parents with a child suffering from a health condition, such as epilepsy or severe eczema, where regular sleep problems cause sleepless nights for the whole family and worsening symptoms for the child.
There are natural remedies that may help. Herbal medicines are a gentler option for children suffering from conditions with studies into their impact on the body to soothe, relax and de-stress leading to a deeper sleep.
Here is a list of all natural sleeping remedies, tips and some natural sleep aids that could be the key for your family’s good night sleep:
1. Fatigue
Tire yourself out in the day. We sleep better when we are worn out physically. Try to get active once a day, outdoors preferably, cycling to work is ideal as it is in your routine, a game in the park with the kids after school, swimming or gymnastics in the winter months, anything that can be a regular thing. Relieve stresses, fire off beneficial chemicals and tire yourself and children out with the added bonus of improved health and mood.
2. Stress Relieving Holy Basil (Tulsi) Herb
Holy Basil Tulsi, has an array of reported benefits that improve our digestive and brain function systems, relieving stress and improving sleep. Our daughter’s sleep improved notably with a small amount of this wonder herb included in her diet daily.
3. A Clear soothing room

Clutter around and under the bed is said to have a negative impact on the time it takes to fall asleep. Clean out the bedroom and bed area, make sure pillows, duvets and bedding is comfortable, colours are relaxing and that the room is conducive to a relaxing nights sleep.
4. Melatonin
Supplementing melatonin is now a well known way to naturally induce your body into falling asleep, as it replicate the chemical melatonin that we produce naturally in our bodies. There are many positive stories and reports into its safe and effective use and others that it didn’t help with their sleeplessness at all. Discuss doses with your Doctor before giving to your child particularly if they suffer from seizures or are on any other medication.
